If you work on sites with lifting equipment, you should ensure your knowledge stays up to date wherever possible. It’s up to your employer to oversee your training, but if you know there are areas where you could do with learning some more, or you feel strongly that your knowledge needs updating, then you should always discuss this with your employer.
You should never work with lifting equipment or cranes if you feel at all uncomfortable, or you don’t feel that you have adequate knowledge to complete the processes safely. Speak to whoever is in charge and explain that you will need training on the correct procedures to use. This will then allow you to build up better knowledge, so you can do your job better in future. It’s beneficial for everyone – employers will never be annoyed that you need more training and support. It’s their duty to provide it, and by working together, you can make sites safer.
