For some construction companies, buying hoists and lifting equipment may not be sensible particularly if the equipment is not used on a regular basis. Hiring the necessary lifting gear may be a much better option as the equipment does not need to be stored when not in use and it can work out much cheaper for the company involved.
If hiring lifting equipment is the preferred option a reliable and reputable hire company should be sought so that the hiring company has the reassurance that the equipment is of good quality and that it is maintained correctly. Any equipment that is going to be hired should have been tested in the last twelve months for any wear and tear or defects in parts and the documentation regarding this should be able to be viewed. A deposit may need to be paid that will be returned to the company when the equipment is returned.
Once the lifting gear and hoists have been used they should be returned to the hiring company in good order and a note made of any faults that have occurred during the hiring period so that the hiring company can rectify these before the equipment is hired out subsequently.
